Key Features of Sorakuen Garden
Sorakuen Garden is a scenic Japanese-style garden, offering a tranquil retreat in the heart of the city. Built in the early 20th century and opened to the public in 1941, the garden was originally the private residence of a prominent local merchant. Today, it is known for its serene atmosphere, traditional design, and beautiful seasonal scenery.
Traditional Landscape Architecture:
Sorakuen exemplifies the essence of Japanese garden design with its carefully arranged rocks, ponds, winding paths, and meticulously pruned plants. It blends natural beauty with human craftsmanship to evoke a sense of harmony.
Historical Structures:
The garden houses several historical buildings, including the Hassam House, a Western-style house originally built by a British trader in Kobe during the Meiji period. It was later relocated to Sorakuen, offering a glimpse into Kobe's history as an international trading hub.
